Our world is a single ecological organisation comprised of many interdependent parts that seek homeostatic balance through a logical system of feedback loops. It is part of a greater universal whole, an organised and evolving continuity of energy.

If ever the universe did not exist, there would exist an absolute void. An absolute void is also of necessity an absolute force; thus it would be a reality with a binary nature and all energy, logic, structure and time inherent in it; able to shape itself into any form.

Existence is an inevitable consequence of non-existence. An intelligent purpose might be chosen by that which exists to explore its own potential, evolve the most appropriate forms of existence and know itself. Such is the chosen purpose of Sumus.

Sumus is primarily concerned with the reality of what we are collectively, and so does not have a bias concerning any nation, organisation or belief system beyond the extent to which it is part of the whole and satisfies the purpose of social organisation. No part can be greater than the whole and every part must serve the whole.

Sumus is the first person plural, present tense of the Latin verb to BE, "We Are". The name is a plural palindrome pun on the first person singular, continuous tense of the verb to BE, I AM; considered by some to be the "Name of God". It is a single word, secular statement of self-evident reality. If a deity exists, it is necessarily the whole continuity of existence: that which We Are.

A functional society must serve the functional purpose of social organisation at every level. The logical function of a society is to make life easier and more satisfying than living alone by helping its citizens to satisfy their reasonable needs and potential through the synergy of social cooperation and mutual service.
